Established in 2012, Musical Armenia marks AGBU’s latest summer initiative. The program provides artists from around the globe with the opportunity to enrich their musical knowledge and performance artistry by exploring the melodies of Armenia’s rich culture through a three-week music education program in Yerevan.
Participants take master classes and lessons in their area of interest. Classes are offered in Western classical instruments, Armenian traditional instruments, voice, conducting and composition. In addition, participants attend specialized lectures conducted by renowned Armenian musicians and musicologists on the history of Armenian medieval, spiritual, minstrel, classical, contemporary, Soviet, dance and jazz music, as well as on khaz, the ancient Armenian music notational system.
While in Armenia, participants live in an AGBU residence in Yerevan and immerse themselves in the artistic and musical life of Armenia by visiting museums, ancient churches and monasteries, attending concerts and talking with local professional artists and musicians.
